Routine Tests – Blood Titer Testing

If you have recently traveled or you’re thinking about traveling sometime in the future, you may want to take a blood titer test. This laboratory test is used to measure different kinds of antibodies in the blood, which can be used to prove immunity to certain types of disease. The amount and diversity of antibodies in the blood correlate with the strength of the body’s immune response.

How is the test performed?

A blood sample is taken for blood titer testing. If the test is positive, it means that you have enough antibodies and, therefore, enough immunity. If the test is negative, it means that you may need to be vaccinated.

How do I prepare for the test?

You don’t need any special preparation to take this test.

What is the purpose of blood titer testing?

Blood titer testing is used to determine the antibody level (titer) in the blood, which tells your healthcare provider if you’ve had an infection in the past, to decide which vaccines you need. A doctor might prescribe a blood titer test for various reasons, including levels of white blood cells, frequent viral or bacterial infections, liver disease, flu-like symptoms, suspected parasite infection, and more.
